My Trayectory As A Teacher, As a Mentor

Since young, Maria has had so much respect and admiration for music and teaching. Thanks to her music foundations based on El Sistema music program and its philosophy, Maria has had the occasion to experience early teaching opportunities. Back in Venezuela she has worked as instructor of El Sistema schools such: the Academic Youth Orchestra, Infantile Lisandro Ramirez Orchestra, and the Libertador Infantile Orchestra, and the Carabobo Youth Orchestra.

Within her degrees at the United States she has served as teacher at the different music programs such: University of Kentucky String Project, Accent 08 Music Festival and Program at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in Ohio, Instructor at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro Summer Sessions apart from her Main role as Teacher Assistant at the UNCG. Other current music teaching involves at the Clara Peck Elementary School in Greensboro, Guest musician at the Diggs-Latham Elementary School in Winston Salem-NC, Music teacher advisor and artistic coordinator at the music program based and inspired on El Sistema's program KidZNotes, Lucas Middle School, Northern High School, and Da Capo Al Coda music studio.

Today, Maria teaches at both kids and college academic level students. Her love and enthusiasm in teaching music, and her constant interest in gaining and enriching herself into more and efficient teaching tools helps her in bolding steeply and deeply her music pedagogy, methodology, and knowledge. Maria has expanded her private teaching in Durham where she teaches at her private beautiful studio called Da Capo Al Coda.

Methodologies

About the teaching methods used. I basically like to approach the beginner student through the methods of Essential Elements and Suzuki. It is a clear method that demands from the student and it simultaneous engages the interaction and participation of their parents, family, friends, and their community as well. As student advances, we explore the different music literature to experience challenges and improve the level or reading and performance of the student.

The Outcomes

Apart from the academic outcomes the student will obtain at my lessons, my intentions as a teacher and artist is to incorporate and welcome the student in the fantastic music world and literature. One of the many purposes of music is the idea of the student developing a sense of responsibility along with following tasks in a didactic and dynamic manner. I love bringing and promoting the idea and the philosophy of enthusing and inculcating a leadership position of the student in the family, and building most importantly a harmonic and artistic environment among their relatives and into their homes. I love to program and propose little student recitals in where the student will have the opportunity in performing the pieces worked throughout the teaching sessions in a little concert for their friends and family. Every student loves the fun in which they get from these opportunities and from their performance experiences. I do believe that the learning and instruction of music is an important influential factor in participating and in the development of many other abilities and skills; in the expansion and promotion of creativity, the adoption of a more discipline attitude for other arts, it helps to easier approach other academic courses, and to focus on developing the tools and creativity to participate at their schools and anywhere else.
